Scott Hawkins

Scott has spent his career focused on food and farming, communications, non-profit management, and strategic development issues. His Santa Cruz-based fresh produce buying brokerage and consulting firm, Hawkins Associates, was a primary contributor to the growth of organic produce industry in its formative stages during the 1980′s and 1990′s. He eventually sold the company to Whole Foods Market; it now serves as their National Buying Office in Watsonville, CA. During this period, he also ran Hawkins Transport, a coast-to-coast fresh produce trucking company.

Since the sale, he has worked as a strategy specialist and management consultant for a range of clients, primarily in the areas of the performing arts, non-profit governance, and agriculture-related marketing and executive transition. He has devoted much time to community health care issues, volunteering as a hospice bedside and grief support volunteer for ten years. He is now as a member of the Board of Shanti Project, the original responder to the AIDS epidemic in 1978.

Recently, he’s focused his attention on fundraising, public relations, and government affairs, with a focus on issues surrounding medical cannabis. Scott studied American Literature at Drew University and Harvard University Extension Program. He lives in Oakland, CA, and serves on the Board of the National Cannabis Industry Association.
